We utilized this library this month! We borrowed a Kill a Watt and a Plug Load Logger and we used them while doing a treasure/night walk at the FAC office :)
Read some very interesting facts while researching food-prints. This one was a wow to me: "The food currently lost or wasted in Latin America could feed 300 million people. The food currently wasted in Europe could feed 200 million people. And the food lost in Africa could feed 300 million people." Food waste is definitely something our household could work on.
Oh and I just learned there is such a thing as pea milk... 🤔😯🤯
Did a little researching on smart power strips and was happy to see that there are several that are highly rated, but don't cost a ton. I found one on Amazon that has 8 regular outlets and 4 USB ports for $27. Seems like a good investment!
ENERGY STAR certified LED light bulbs provide high-quality light output, use up to 90% less energy, and last 15 times longer than standard bulbs, saving money on energy bills and replacement costs. Costco has a 5 pack for $33, less than $7 a bulb for years of savings!
I saw a Today story on Dishwasher Do's and Don'ts, that said you should not pre-rinse your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher because it actually makes the dishwasher not clean as well. Modern dishwashers have soil sensors that rely on the food bits to determine how to clean the dishes and detergent actually sticks better to dirtier surfaces. (You should still scrape off bit food chunks into the garbage first) And the energy benefit - you are using less water, which means using less energy! It may seem like a dishwasher uses more water, but it actually reuses the water. So my new goal is to try and break my habit of pre-rinsing everything before loading it into the dishwasher 😄
Marti - I think I've only ever taken my filter out like once! They said you should take it out and clean it once every 6 months! So that's another thing I am going to try and remember to do now!
Walked to work today, but then started to run when I realized that I didn't give myself enough time... Showed up to work with a red face and foggy glasses, but that was fun! 🤣
Amazing Job! At my old job, limited parking was available. So I used to park on one side of the river, take Max, then walk, then take the tram - THEN walk across campus to get to my building. Now, I'm grateful not to have the commute . . . but I sure miss the walking. Enjoy it!
